The GFEI is a partnership of organisations (including the FIA Foundation, the International Council on Clean Transportation, UN Environment Programme, International Energy Agency, International Transport Forum, and the University of California, Davis) that supports transport decarbonisation at the global, regional, country, and sub-national levels. In addition to data development and analysis of fuel economy potentials, the initiative provides support for national and regional policy-making efforts as well as outreach to stakeholders. The initial objective of the GFEI, established in 2010, was to help stabilise greenhouse gas emissions from the global light duty vehicle fleet through a 50 per cent improvement of vehicle fuel efficiency worldwide by 2050. The GFEI’s ZERO pathway report updated this objective in 2021, setting out key actions to secure this transformation to zero carbon vehicles by 2050.
